Start at home, without distractions, with very short sessions. Start with the game “back and forth”: everyone calls once, he comes, you reward, then you go along in a quiet exterior. For “Sit / Not Move”, hold 1 to 2 seconds only, release quickly and reward. For “Coward / Give”, always offer a more interesting exchange and never pull the object out.

Where to start training?

The Maltipoo needs to think as much as to move. Enrichment limits destruction and promotes l’apprentissagelearning:

  • ObjectifsObjectives: channel energy, develop flair, learn calm.
  • IdéesIdeas: sets of flair (hidden croquettes, floor track), licking/Kong mat (can be frozen), targets (“goes to the carpet”), authorized chewing (coffee wood, soft toys).
  • GestionManagement: rotation of toys every week, barriers to secure, redirect rather than scolder.
  • Rule : 10 min of flair tire better than 30 min overexcitement.

Frequently asked questions?

Where to start training?

Start at home, in a quiet room, without distractions. Do very short sessions (1 to 3 minutes), several times a day, rather than a long on

How to play “back and forth” correctly?

There are two of you. Each one calls once (“Come!”), the dog arrives, you reward right away, and then the other person calls him in turn. Keep a simple pace: call → arrival → reward → pause from 2 to 3 seconds → we start again.

What if he doesn’t come when we call him?

Don’t repeat ten times. Get closer to a few steps, go down, make an interesting appointment (playful voice), show the treat, and shorten the distance. Reward as soon as it moves towards you. Go back the difficulty very gradually.

Does a Maltipoo live well in an apartment and with children?

Yes, provided you offer daily outings, games and clear rules. Presentations with children and other animals are done gradually.

When to go outside and how to use the lanyard?

When it’s fluid at home, go out to a quiet place (few people, few dogs). Put a 5 to 10 m lanyard for safety. Same protocol: a call, arrival, reward. If the environment excites it, increase the value of the treat and shorten the distance.

What material and rewards to choose?

A light loin, a Y-shaped harness, soft and small treats, and your joyful voice. Keep a “super” treat for tougher situations outside.

How to work “Sitting / Not moving” at the beginning?

Ask “Sit”, say “Don’t move”, count 1 to 2 seconds only, then release quickly (“OK!”) and reward. The idea is to succeed often. Lie down for a second when it’s easy five times in a row.

How do you know when to increase the difficulty?
